Stephanie Andrew-Smith
Wells’ Enhanced 9-1-1 Coordinator
Enabled by legislation in 1994, Enhanced 9-1-1 is a property and lifesaving  statewide emergency telecommunications system service that requires address numbering of structures according to the formula designed by the State of Vermont. The local Enhanced 9-1-1 Coordinators, in some cases, such as our Stephanie, must tediously reassign addresses in accordance with Vermont’s Service Plan, which accommodates new and prevailing structures. Add that instilling cooperation and promoting visibility of address street numbers that are essential to this program’s success and you can understand the complexity of this position.  More information is on pg 32 of the Town Report.

OUR HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT
Our Highway Department consists of two men. That’s right, just two men who maintain 41 miles of roadways; some of which are dirt roads that require year-round maintenance to control the flow of water in all its forms---ice, snow, sleet, or rain; removing obstacles and filling ruts. Knowing they also tend to proper drainage, winter plowing, and surface patching, among other things, and you have a good idea of work they do. Pictured left to right are Dave Ricard and Stan Martelle Sr., the one smiling, no less!

OUR CONSTABLES
1st Constable Gary Stomski moved to Wells from Pittsfield, Vermont, with his family at the age of nine. After high school, Gary attended BOCES Vocational Technical School majoring in masonry. Following graduation, he worked for Hadeka Slate for 15 years in a variety of positions while performing masonry jobs on the side to supplement his income. In 1999, Gary began work for Zachery's Tile and Masonry Service. With a desire to contribute to his town, Gary was elected as our 1st Constable. In March of 2010, he successfully completed the Three Phase Basic Training Course for Part-Time Officers. "My goal is to assist in preserving the peace and tranquility in Wells and to assist where I might be helpful," Gary said.

2nd Constable Norm Brown provides his services to the town when Gary is unavailable. Norm developed an interest in law enforcement in high school that has lasted for 35 years. Norm has served in the County Sherriffs’ Department, and as a Warden in the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department.

Saving lives and property is what these folks prepare for 24/7/365! Throughout the year, members of the Wells Volunteer Department attend classes and perform countless hours of drills to perfect their skills and knowledge to the benefit each one of us. They also raise money for their equipment and supplies and host those tasty breakfasts at the Fire House, besides being ready at a moment’s notice to fulfill their mission.
WELLS LIBRARY
Trish Capron, instrumental in upgrading the library, retired in 2009 after many years of dedicated service to our community.
“The Wells Library is an essential component to community life particularly with its shared commitment to enhancing the personal growth and learning for children. It is a great resource to the community and a connection to its history,” Trish said.
Welcome to our new Librarian Dolores Guarino
